Masonry Products — Bricks & Blocks
EN 771-1 · ASTM C216 · TS 705The most widely used masonry unit globally, produced by firing clay or shale at high temperatures. Available in solid and perforated (delikli) configurations. Solid bricks provide superior compressive strength and are used for load-bearing walls, foundations and retaining structures. Perforated bricks reduce weight, improve thermal performance and lower raw material consumption while maintaining structural adequacy for non-load-bearing partition and infill applications. Standard Turkish formats include 190×90×65 mm (modular) and 240×115×71 mm (imperial-compatible). Compressive strength ranges from 5 MPa (hollow infill) to 50 MPa (engineering brick). Applications: load-bearing walls, partition walls, garden walls, pavement and paving applications with engineering brick grades.
Thermally insulating clay bricks (also known as honeycomb bricks, vertically perforated bricks or insulated brick) are produced with a high percentage of vertical voids arranged in a specific cellular geometry that creates a thermal labyrinth effect. The multiple air pockets significantly reduce thermal conductivity (λ value) compared to conventional perforated bricks, enabling wall systems to meet increasingly stringent building energy codes without requiring full external insulation systems.
Thermal bricks are produced in large-format blocks (e.g., 290×190×190 mm and 380×190×190 mm) to reduce mortar joint thermal bridging and accelerate construction speed. Lambda values typically range from 0.18 to 0.32 W/m·K depending on perforation ratio and geometry. Widely used in residential construction in Türkiye, Italy, Spain and Germany — markets with high wall thermal performance standards.
Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) blocks are manufactured by reacting Portland cement with lime, sand, water and an expansion agent (aluminium powder) under autoclave steam curing. The result is an ultra-lightweight block with excellent thermal insulation, fire resistance and workability. AAC blocks are easily cut with hand saws, enabling rapid on-site adaptation without specialized equipment. Density classes range from 300 to 700 kg/m³ (vs. ~1,800 kg/m³ for dense concrete block), significantly reducing structural load and foundation requirements. Standard block formats: 600×200×100–300 mm. Lambda values: 0.09 – 0.22 W/m·K. Applications include all partition and infill walls, external walls with additional render, and any application where weight reduction is commercially valuable.
Concrete masonry units (CMUs) in hollow and solid configurations, produced from Portland cement, aggregates and water. Hollow blocks reduce weight and provide a core for reinforced masonry or thermal fill. Solid blocks are used for retaining walls, boundary walls and below-grade applications. Available in standard sizes: 390×190×190 mm, 390×190×140 mm, 390×190×90 mm. Compressive strength classes: 3.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0 and 15.0 N/mm². Split-face and smooth-face finishes available for architectural applications.
Thermal & Acoustic Insulation Boards
EN 13163 · EN 13164 · EN 13162Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) — known in Türkiye as strafor — is the world's most widely used insulation material for building applications. Produced by expanding polystyrene beads with steam in molds, it creates a closed-cell foam board with excellent thermal performance, very low density, and complete resistance to water absorption at the capillary level (water vapor can pass; liquid water cannot). EPS boards are available in density grades from 10 kg/m³ (EPS 60) to 35 kg/m³ (EPS 200), with higher density grades providing increased compressive strength for inverted roof, below-slab and traffic-exposed applications.
Standard board sizes: 1,000×500 mm and 1,200×600 mm; thickness from 20 to 200 mm. Lambda: 0.031–0.038 W/m·K depending on density. EPS is the primary insulation board used in ETICS (external thermal insulation composite systems / external insulation systems) in European and Turkish markets. Graphite-enhanced EPS (grey EPS / neopor) achieves lambda values as low as 0.030 W/m·K through infrared radiation absorption.
Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) is produced through a continuous extrusion process that creates a fully closed-cell structure with superior moisture resistance, higher compressive strength and better long-term thermal stability compared to EPS. XPS does not absorb water even under prolonged immersion, making it the mandatory specification for applications with permanent water contact: inverted flat roofs, below-ground foundations (perimeter insulation), flooring under screed, cold room floors, road sub-base insulation and green roof systems.
Standard XPS boards: 1,250×600 mm and 2,500×600 mm; thickness 20–200 mm. Lambda: 0.029–0.036 W/m·K. Compressive strength classes: 200, 300, 500, 700 kPa (CS(10/Y)200–700 per EN 13164). Surface finishes: smooth, milled and tongued-and-grooved edges for continuous insulation layers. Color-coded by manufacturer by lambda class.
Mineral wool insulation — stone wool (rockwool) and glass wool — is the primary non-combustible insulation solution for applications where fire performance is critical. Stone wool is produced from volcanic basalt rock melted and spun into fine fibres; glass wool from silica sand and recycled glass. Both achieve Euroclass A1 or A2-s1,d0 fire classification (non-combustible), making them mandatory for facades above 6 m in many European building regulations, for fire compartment walls, industrial buildings and any application with strict fire safety codes.
Stone wool boards for facade use: density 100–175 kg/m³, lambda 0.034–0.040 W/m·K. Glass wool rolls for roof/cavity: density 10–48 kg/m³, lambda 0.030–0.040 W/m·K. Also available: pipe insulation sections (for HVAC), marine-grade mineral wool, and acoustic mineral wool boards (high density, 50–80 kg/m³) for sound absorption.
Polyurethane rigid foam boards (PUR) and the superior Polyisocyanurate variant (PIR) deliver the best thermal performance per unit thickness of any commonly available insulation material. Lambda values of 0.022–0.026 W/m·K allow the required thermal resistance to be achieved with approximately 40% less thickness than EPS or mineral wool — critical in renovation projects with limited cavity depth, and in high-performance flat roof systems. PIR boards have improved fire performance (Euroclass B or C) over PUR. Standard facings: aluminium foil (double-sided), glass tissue, or kraft paper, depending on application. Thickness range: 20–220 mm.
ETICS — External Thermal Insulation Composite System (Mantolama)
ETAG 004 · EN 13499/13500ETICS (External Thermal Insulation Composite System) — known in Türkiye and widely as ETICS — is the most effective method for retrofitting or new-build external wall insulation on building facades. A complete ETICS kit comprises: (1) Adhesive mortar for bonding insulation boards to the substrate; (2) Insulation board (EPS, mineral wool or XPS); (3) Mechanical anchors (wall plugs) for supplementary fixing; (4) Base coat (reinforcement mortar) applied over the insulation, embedding; (5) Alkali-resistant glass fibre mesh (145–160 g/m²); (6) Primer; (7) Decorative finish coat (silicone, silicate, acrylic or mineral render, 1.5–3 mm).
Atabaş Group supplies complete ETICS system components or full kit packages. System options: EPS-based ETICS (most economical, dominant in residential sector); Mineral wool ETICS (fire-safe, required for buildings above 6 m in most EU member states); XPS-based ETICS (for damp-exposed substrates). Finish coat textures: scratch, float, mosaic, thin-coat render. All system components are supplied from the same manufacturer to ensure ETA (European Technical Assessment) validity.
Prefabricated Panels — Sandwich, Cladding & Structural
EN 14509 · EN 13830Sandwich panels are factory-manufactured composite elements consisting of two profiled metal facings (typically hot-dip galvanized, Aluzinc or pre-painted steel at 0.4–0.6 mm) bonded to an insulating core. They are the structural and insulating element of prefabricated industrial, commercial and agricultural buildings — simultaneously providing structure, weatherproofing, thermal insulation and acoustic performance in a single product.
Roof sandwich panels: trapezoidal steel facing top and bottom; core options PUR (λ 0.022), PIR (λ 0.022, improved fire) or mineral wool (MW, fire-safe A2); thickness 40–200 mm; spanning capability 3–12 m depending on thickness and core. Wall sandwich panels: flat, lightly profiled or micro-ribbed steel facings; same core options; thickness 40–200 mm; vertical or horizontal installation. Tongue-and-groove interlocking joints provide weathertightness. RAL colour range standard. EI30–EI120 fire resistance options with mineral wool core.
Aluminium Composite Material (ACM/ACP) panels consist of two aluminium skins (typically 0.3–0.5 mm) bonded to a polyethylene or fire-retardant mineral core. Total panel thickness: 3, 4 or 6 mm. Standard sheet size: 1,220×2,440 mm and 1,500×3,050 mm. Used for ventilated facade cladding, signage, shopfront fascias, column cladding and interior partitions. Fire-retardant core variants (FR grade) significantly reduce flame spread and are mandatory in many facade specifications above 18 m. Available in full RAL colour range and metallic / wood / mirror / brushed finishes via PVDF or polyester coating.
Precast reinforced concrete panels and hollow-core floor slabs produced under factory quality control conditions. Hollow-core slabs: widths 600, 900, 1,200 mm; depths 150–500 mm; spanning up to 18 m. Solid precast wall panels: architectural or structural. Applications include multi-storey residential frames, commercial buildings, car parks, industrial floors and bridge deck elements. Factory production ensures dimensional consistency, concrete strength certification and reduced on-site labour — critical for fast-track construction programs.
Fencing & Perimeter Security Systems
EN 10244 · EN 10218 · ASTM A121Welded wire mesh fence panels — commonly called panel fence, fence panel or 3D panel fence — are the most widely specified perimeter fencing system for residential estates, industrial sites, schools, parks, military facilities and infrastructure perimeters. Panels are manufactured from low-carbon steel wire (Ø3.0–5.0 mm), resistance-welded at intersections, and finished with hot-dip galvanizing (Class A or B per EN 10244) and/or electrostatic polyester powder coating (minimum 60 microns, RAL colour selection).
Standard panel dimensions: height 0.6–2.4 m; width 2.5 m. The "3D" variant features a triple horizontal corrugation that significantly increases panel rigidity without additional wire. Posts: round (Ø48/60 mm) or C-channel (50/60 mm) hot-dip galvanized steel, set in concrete. Gates: single-leaf, double-leaf and sliding gate variants in matching panel design. Installation accessories: post caps, panel clips, anti-climb hardware.

Common questions from construction buyers
Technical and commercial questions most commonly raised by procurement managers, contractors and developers approaching Atabaş Group for construction material supply.
What is the difference between XPS and EPS insulation, and when should each be specified?
EPS (expanded polystyrene) is the most economical and widely used insulation board — suitable for external wall ETICS systems, internal wall insulation, floor insulation under screed (where loading is moderate) and light roof applications. XPS (extruded polystyrene) has a fully closed-cell structure that makes it impervious to moisture absorption even under prolonged contact with water, and achieves higher compressive strength classes (up to 700 kPa). XPS is mandatory for inverted flat roofs (where insulation sits above the waterproofing), below-ground perimeter insulation, flooring under heavy loads, and any application with direct or prolonged moisture contact. For facades where fire performance is critical, neither EPS nor XPS is appropriate — mineral wool (A1 fire class) should be specified instead.
What is ETICS / mantolama and what does a complete system include?
ETICS (External Thermal Insulation Composite System) — known in some markets as mantolama — is the external wall insulation method where insulation boards are bonded and mechanically anchored to the outside face of the existing wall, then covered with a reinforced base coat and decorative render. A complete ETICS kit includes: adhesive mortar, insulation board (EPS or mineral wool), mechanical anchors, reinforcement base coat, alkali-resistant mesh (minimum 145 g/m²), primer and finish coat (silicone, silicate or acrylic). It is critical that all components come from the same manufacturer's system with a valid European Technical Assessment (ETA), as this validates the performance warranty of the system as a whole. Mixing components from different manufacturers invalidates the ETA.
What are the main variants of barbed wire and when is concertina / razor wire specified?
Standard barbed wire (2-ply twisted galvanized, 4-point barb) is used for agricultural, rural and light perimeter fencing. High-tensile barbed wire uses a stronger core wire for longer post spans in large perimeter applications. PVC-coated variants are used in coastal or industrial environments where corrosion resistance is required. Concertina / razor wire (spiral barbed tape, BTO or CBT types) is a significantly higher-security product specified for military facilities, prisons, border security, embassies and critical infrastructure perimeters — where the objective is to prevent or significantly delay intrusion rather than simply mark a boundary. Razor wire provides a much greater physical deterrent than conventional barbed wire due to its dense sharp-edged tape barbs at 25–35 mm intervals and its coiled geometry, which makes it very difficult to pass through or over without specialist equipment.
Can Atabaş Group supply a complete multi-category construction material package for an EPC project?
Yes. Atabaş Group is structured to coordinate multi-category construction material supply programs for EPC contractors and large-scale infrastructure projects. A typical EPC supply package may include masonry materials, insulation systems, structural steel, rebar, fencing and roofing sheets — all coordinated under a single commercial framework, with unified quality inspection, consolidated shipping documentation and a single point of contractual accountability. This reduces procurement and logistics management burden significantly compared to managing separate suppliers for each material category. Please contact us through atabas.com.tr/contact-us to discuss specific project requirements.
Are Turkish construction materials compliant with European EN standards?
Yes, for the majority of construction material categories. Turkish brick and block production follows EN 771-1 and EN 771-4. Insulation boards are produced to EN 13163 (EPS) and EN 13164 (XPS) by leading Turkish manufacturers. Reinforcing steel is produced to EN 10080 B500B/C by major Turkish steel mills including Çolakoğlu, Kardemir, İçdaş and others. Gypsum board is produced to EN 520. For each product, EN-compliant test certificates from accredited Turkish laboratories are available and widely accepted by European and Middle Eastern specifiers. ASTM-compliant production is also available for markets requiring US standards, particularly for rebar (ASTM A615) and cement (ASTM C150).
