Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI)

HBI and DRI Trade, Production, Prices and Export Destinations

Introduction

Steel producers around the world rely on high-quality iron sources such as HBI (Hot Briquetted Iron) and DRI (Direct Reduced Iron). These raw materials deliver high iron content, stable composition, and low impurity levels—making them ideal for efficient steelmaking. Their increasing demand reflects the global shift towards cleaner and more energy-efficient processes.

At ATABAŞ GRUP, we manage the export of HBI and DRI with precision. We only work on FOB Mersin terms and accept cash payments. Our team does not use any financial instruments like LC, DLC, or SBLC under any circumstances.

Payment Policy and Trading Terms

We operate with absolute clarity when it comes to payments. Since HBI and DRI are sensitive and valuable products, we follow a no-compromise policy:

  • We only sell on FOB terms at Mersin Port.
  • We do not offer CIF or DAP pricing.
  • We reject all credit-based instruments, including LC, DLC, or SBLC.
  • We accept cash payments only, and our sales are finalized under FOB CAD (Cash Against Documents) conditions.

This disciplined approach reduces risk and accelerates the process for both parties.

Our Delivery Procedure

We designed a straightforward and transparent workflow to ensure product quality and payment security:

  1. Warehouse Control: Buyers or their appointed agents inspect and test the product at the bonded warehouse.
  2. Vessel Nomination: Buyers must provide vessel details. If they don’t have a ship, we can help arrange one.
  3. Lab Analysis Completion: After moisture and chemical tests are done, we issue a commercial invoice.
  4. First Payment (50%): Buyers transfer the first half of the payment to initiate loading.
  5. Cargo Loading: Our team loads the product and prepares export documents.
  6. Final Payment (50%): Once documents are ready, buyers complete the payment.
  7. FOB CAD Execution: We hand over the full set of documents, and the transaction concludes.

This process allows full control over the transaction and ensures zero delay due to financial complications.

Documents We Provide

Every shipment includes:

  • Commercial Invoice
  • Certificate of Origin
  • Packing List
  • SGS or Equivalent Inspection Report
  • Final Chemical Analysis
  • Warehouse and Port Release Notes

We ensure that each document meets international trade and customs requirements.

Why Choose HBI and DRI?

Both HBI and DRI offer significant advantages over traditional scrap or iron ore. For instance, they provide consistent chemistry, reduce emissions, and allow precise melt control in EAFs. While DRI is more reactive and used in domestic regions, HBI’s compact form suits international transport and storage.

HBI and DRI are not just commodities; they are strategic resources that demand professionalism in every stage—from handling to export compliance.

Conclusion

ATABAŞ GRUP delivers HBI and DRI with the highest level of technical, logistical, and financial discipline. We only work with reliable buyers who understand the strategic value of these materials. Our cash-based, FOB-only model guarantees safe, secure, and transparent trading.
